A really good review of HTDAAB

HTDMAAB

Got the new U2 album yesterday!!!!!!! woo hoooooo. So far its pretty good - u2 album always take time to grow into bhut i can see this one has plently musically and lyrically to think about. Standout music so far is miracle drug and lyrically, yahweh. Good few weeks of having this on high rotation.
There seems to be heaps of meatly spiritual thoughts in there - already used one leading at church!!

back in the land of the living

well I'm almost better from the tonsils op. It has taken over a week but I'm now at the stage where it just feels like a really sore throat - which it good!! i think I would put it down as one of the worst experiences of my life...just alot a pain and not being able to eat or talk (which is hard for me!). I lost about 4 kilos last week, and i can't really afford to lose it! So this week I have to concentrate on eating more although its still a slow process...
But I'm getting there quicker than a few days ago...can actually go to uni today and do some of my much neglected work!

How to Dismantle and Atomic Bomb

Yesterday I got a hurried SMS from a good mate telling me the new U2 album was being played in all its fullness on Nova Fm. So of course being the devoted U2 tradgic I am I fell over myself trying to turn the radio on as quickly as I could to catch what was being played.

All in all I was pretty happy with what i heard. I felt like I knew some of the songs already coz I've been reading about them for weeks now, but it was great to hear them and catch some of the lyrics in context of the music. The major feature I noticed is that the edge has reclaimed his sound, namely the echo, chiming chord and ringing open strings. Was good to hear them again!

I'm hanging out to get hold of an album! I've been wondering when 98.5 is going to play their new songs. I hope they realise the spirituality of the music and play the songs rather than just wait until they become popular on other station and follow suite. There is a great oppurtunity to lead in perth by playing the worlds biggest band who play christian music. Note that that is very different to the world biggest christian band...

So rodney - if your reading, you have my permission to play them and if you have any advance albums, you can shoot one my way!!

Tonsils out....

I've had my call up from the waiting list to have my tonsils out. I out myself on the waiting list some time last year and got the phone call the other day, they're going to hack them out on monday!!
Apparently it can really hurt when your older and you voice can change! I don't like pain although a sexier voice would be nice!
I like the idea of getting an op done for free - I'm not going to tell them I have since taken out private health insurance - give it to me for free!!

Cricket

I hear that katitch has been dropped to bring lehman back into the team - bad move in my book, I think its time Lehman moved on, also clarke has been retained in the side. It will be interesting to see how the NZed's will go in a test series - havn't seen them play for a while...

Church last night

Well my turn came 'round to lead again last night. I'm pleased to say i think it rocked! Our team had a great night and all the songs came to life - I'm very happy with my multi-effects unit and what it is adding to our sound...mainly just a good crunch distortion to some of the faster modern songs and sometimes a bit of wah. But anyway - there was a real sense of God being present and people having honest, fun worship - great to be a part of and always a good thing to be our the front of as it makes it a different experience again.

The cricket

been loving the cricket in India - nothing like a series over there - especially the one in 2001. This one hasn't been bad but the other guys are a bit out of form...

the game on at the moement is very unusal...Its been a few years since international cricket has produced such a bowler friendly pitch - almost impossible to get a good score on. But - the aussie are so confident they're still managing to crack some big shot. Great team...

Gospel song for the restless soul...

thats how bono describes it....

This song has given me alot of comfort over the years and plenty to think about. Many people see it as a negative song about not having the answer. Rather I think it is a brave song admitting that we have never arrived as christians and that we are always running, walking or crawling our way along the walk....plus the last verse is one of the clearest explainations of faith in song...

"I Still Haven't Found What I'm Looking For"
I have climbed the highest mountain
I have run through the fields
Only to be with you
Only to be with you

I have run, I have crawled
I have scaled these city walls
These city walls
Only to be with you

But I still haven't found what I'm looking for
But I still haven't found what I'm looking for

I have kissed honey lips
Felt the healing in her fingertips
It burned like fire
This burning desire
I have spoke with the tongue of angels
I have held the hand of a devil
It was warm in the night
I was cold as a stone

But I still haven't found what I'm looking for
But I still haven't found what I'm looking for

I believe in the kingdom come
Then all the colors will bleed into oneBleed into one
Well, yes, I'm still running
You broke the bonds and youLoosed the chains
Carried the cross
And my shame
All my shame
You know I believe it

But I still haven't found what I'm looking for
But I still haven't found what I'm looking for
But I still haven't found what I'm looking for
But I still haven't found what I'm looking for

The US

Not sure if I'm happy that "W" is back in. Don't really like some of the stuff he has done although at least he will be able to follow through on his pledge of $15B to africa over the next 3 years...

Too busy for blogging

Hi all - the poor old blog has been neglected. I'm afraid the demands of the PhD kind of took over during the past week or so. The plants in the field needed attention and the disease level needed to be assesed - I therefore have the sorest hamstrings in Perth!! Also I am trying to wrap up my first paper to send off to an international journal - hence the reason I'm on the 'puter at this time...So I feel a bit guilty indulging in blogging when stuff is busy...
I am also spending a bit of time trying to manage contacts to establish what I'm going to actually do when this whole study thing actually stops - there are a few options floating around so its a case of keeping everyone in the loop and burning no bridges...
