Psalm of the day

Its been on my mind for a while and thought I would include it.  Rather fitting that it ends Psalms:  its so simple, yet sums up what its all about.  From how I read it, it shows us the correct form of worship.  Firstly, praise God for just being God, then for what he has done, and this should all be done in the amount according to his greatness!!  Then we are pretty much to do it with and by whatever means we have available!  A good reminder to keep things simple – I see a song in here somewhere…

Psalm 150

Praise the LORD! Praise God in his sanctuary;

Praise him in his mighty firmament!

Praise him for his mighty deeds; praise him according to his exceeding greatness!

Praise him with trumpet sound; praise him with lute and harp!

Praise him with timbrel and dance; praise him with strings and pipe!

Praise him with sounding cymbals; praise him with loud clashing cymbals!

Let everything that breathes praise the LORD! Praise the LORD!

Oh the pain!

There go the Socceroos – that’s the way soccer goes.  As much as I liked watching Australia in it, the whole sense of injustice that can occur in soccer is a bit much.  So few goals mean one decision affects the whole game.  Maybe its all too European for me:  Lots of drama, controversy, feigning being hurt, referees having “bad” or “good” games – all too emotional.  I think the fact that you can win or lose even when you don’t deserve it appeals to the dramatic side of Europe.  Oh well, back to AFL next week.  Carn the eagles.

Church and the Da Vinci Code

Well… its come time for Rivo to hop on the bandwagon and have a service looking into the Da Vinci Code book/movie.  This is quite unusual actually as our church is not normally a “lets preach pop culture sermons” but I think this could be interesting.  I’m leading for the night so I’ve downloaded the obligatory movie trailers to slot into the service.  To put it into the words of Col M. (the bloke preaching on Sunday PM):

“The topic for June 11 in the PM service will be 'The Da Vinci  Code - Just who is Jesus?'.  I will outline the huge influence and impact of movies in our culture but that we need to separate what is fact from fiction. This is especially so with the Da Vinci film. I wish to focus on who Christ is - fully human yet fully divine. We can have complete confidence in the Bible's unveiling of the Son of God.”

I tend to think that the “church” has had a bit of an overreaction to this movie and, while this is something to be wary about, we have forgotten that it is a fictional work.  Rather than protesting for outright bans lets use this sort of thing as an opportunity to talk about the Truth, about a work of Non-Fiction – the Bible.

long time no blog

Well its been a very long time since a blog.  A lot has happened and could probably be a good reason to use as an excuse.

The major things that have been going on are:

Handed final version of thesis in with corrections – I will now only answer to my name prefixed with Dr…

Jack has been growing steadily (7 months now)

Growing accustomed to my new job

Travelling to NZ for conference (april)

Writing and recording song (go to True-tunes.com).  Incidently go to this website and check out a whole bunch of songs, and keep a look out as they are original songs from local Perth people.

Anyway – must endeavour not to leave it so long, this only took 5 mins…
