Australian Open

Well two aussies are through to the quarter finals in the Australian open. What a great time of year for sport - plenty of tenis and cricket on the TV!! Leyton Hewitt and Alicia Molik both played very well, leyton fighting back from the brink of defeat and alicia just outplaying venus williams. This is all good and well, although I think they could both take a leaf from the Pat Rafter book of interviews and dealing with the media - he always came across humble and always gave credit to his opponent first, and thats why he was such, and still is, a popular player.

And then God said...

You hear christian saying these sort of statements - about God speaking personally to them. Its never something that I have experienced noticbly (audibly?) in my walk. I was trying it yesterday in my quiet time, to listen quietly for God to speak, and for me it raises the question of how do I know what is God talking and whats just my own generationthoughts in my mind? Does God "talk to people or is it just they're mind generating stuff they know is consistent with Gods word, which I guess is God speaking anyway - does it actually matter?

The New Year and Big Waves

Well I had a great break around Chritmas/New Year, especially around New Year, spending it with friends and a relaxing atmosphere.
As a time though it has been dominated by the events ober in asia and the bay of bengal. Such a devestating complete disaster, and just plain hard to comprehend. As a christian it makes you think, and also non-christians by looking at the letters in the paper, about where is God in these sort of events. It seems to cold to say that something good will come out of these circumstances. Maybe the wisdom of Homer Simpson is more fitting where he says "its just a bunch of stuff that happened".
But we know God isn't random and whether he activly made it happen or allowed it to happen we know that he is in control. After discussing allo this with a good mate and having a read through Job I think the conclusion we must reach is that we connot hope to comprehend with our minds the one who made our minds. We have a notion of what a loving God should behave like yet we can't even begin to comprehend that realm in which he lives and operates. Who are we as humans to decide what God can and connot do with his rebelous sinful creations - and besides, he does love us because he inflicted a disaster on his own son for our sake.
So in conclusion we cannot understand God or his purposes but I bet he is interested in our response to these circumstances.
